A TV documentary crew arrive on a remote island in the Philippines to film a survival special. Their back-to-the-wild adventure proves to be more terrifying than they ever could have imagined.

It’s 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He’s been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy’s shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything - his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.

The town of Westbrick is a rough place to live in. It is here that the young rookie cop Matthew lives with his wife. Meanwhile, notorious serial killers Billy and Barbara embark on a killing spree in order to get notoriety. Matthew gets his first assignment with his much older partner William when he unfortunately crosses paths with Billy and Barbara. William gets killed in the line of duty by Billy and Barbara but that’s not enough for them: they torture and brutally murder Matthew’s wife. Things get even worse for young Matthew when he loses his job, being wrongfully blamed for William’s death and now charged with murder. Matthew finds himself isolated; there is no reason to count on a corrupt legal system and even less of a chance of being found innocent. He goes on a rampage for vengeance and slowly turns into a mad psychopath just like Billy and Barbara.

Detective Sam Dietz yet again must find and stop another serial killer who kills a number of women in ritualistic executions. Detective work for Dietz is tough having to juggle two gorgeous women: his new female partner Jessica, and psychiatrist Sara Lee Jaffee who holds the key to the case.

A masked gunman is on the prowl, kidnapping seemingly random victims without hesitation or remorse. As each ten-minute period expires, the gunman re-enters the bunker and asks his one simple question. “Why are you here?” If they don’t have every piece of his twisted puzzle a single gunshot kills one of the nine resetting the clock giving survivors another chance to uncover the gunman’s truth. Criminals, everyday citizens, a cop, a lawyer and a priest have all been extracted from their lives and thrust into a world of betrayal, deceit and murder. Unsure who to trust and what to believe, the nine must rely on each other before the clock on the next victims life runs down to zero. Can their differences and prejudices be put asides?
