Film adaptation of street tough Jim Carroll’s epistle about his kaleidoscopic free fall into the harrowing world of drug addiction. Three men, three dreams. It’s 1976 in Flint, Michigan. Jackie Moon’s American Basketball Association team languishes in last place, with few fans in the seats. Jackie dreams of a merger with the NBA. Morris Buttermaker (Thornton), an alcoholic pest removal worker and former professional baseball player (for a very short time), is recruited to coach and train a failing baseball team of 12 year olds which is about to be thrown out of the league. Although the team does not win the first place in the next championship, it does achieve a great comeback.

The legendary coach is fired and replaced with his 24-year-old, one-season assistant coach, Kent Stock — a move designed to insure the team’s failure. “THE FINAL SEASON” tells the true story of an underdog coach and team who despite tradition have been written off not only by their rivals but also by those closest to them, the town.
